Internship available for Spring, Fall or Summer Semester. Intern will assist an attorney with his or her caseload. Duties include: accompanying attorneys to court, researching legal issues, drafting letters, making telephone calls, and clerical duties such as answering the phone, copying, and filing.
Prairie State Legal Services provides legal advice and possible representation in a variety of matters which affect a person’s ability to meet his or her basic human needs or provide for the safety of family members. Examples are cases involving: the safety, education, and welfare of children; domestic violence and elder abuse; denial or termination of housing benefits, landlord-tenant and/or utility issues; issues involving public benefits such as Social Security, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps.
Our office offers legal advice on a wide range of topics; representation of clients in state and federal courts; representation of clients in hearings before local, state, and federal agencies; negotiation on behalf of clients; brief services including preparation of powers of attorney; and legal education presentations and publications.
